VNSC Membership

VNSC is a tight-knight community that has been sailing in Uganda for over 90 years! We are a member-led organization that convenes for purposes of sailing and socializing every week.

Thinking about becoming a member? Here’s three reasons to join!

  1. Support the club
    Becoming a member is the best way to support VNSC! As a small club of 30-40 members, your membership fees makes a big difference to sustaining our operations. Your membership supports us to invest in our fleet, maintain our infrastructure, pay our staff, and make sailing activities available here in Uganda.

  2. Join the community
    As a member, you automatically become part of our community! Our club meets regularly for sailing, camping, barbecues, courses, and events. Through these activities you will meet people of all ages and backgrounds who share a love for sailing, the outdoors, and the beauty of Uganda.

  3. Developing your skills as a sailor
    Becoming better at sailing will help you to stay physically and mentally fit throughout your life - the health benefits of spending the afternoon on the water (and away from your phone) is something that you can enjoy regardless of age. Developing your sailing skills in Uganda will also open the door to you sailing elsewhere, both through experience and connections. The best way to become a better sailor is to practice and the best way to practice is to join a sailing club!

VNSC’s membership year runs from July to June.

Applicant Types

FAMILY: Two adults and their dependent children up to 18 years of age or who are in full-time education and not older than 26 years and who live as a household may join as a family.

SINGLE: One adult and their dependent children up to 18 years of age or who are in full-time education and not older than 26 years.

Membership Categories

ORDINARY: available for members staying in the Kampala area. Ordinary membership grants you:

  • Unlimited access to the club, 7 days per week at no cost

  • Boat rentals and access to all club-organized racing events at member rates

  • Rights to invite visitors to the club (visitors may visit 6 times per year)

  • Reciprocal membership at other sailing clubs

  • Rights to vote at the AGM and serve on club committee

JUNIOR: available for persons under 18 years of age on 1st July of the year of application and enjoys the same benefits as full club membership except that junior members have to be accompanied by a responsible adult and cannot vote in Club matters.

UP-COUNTRY: available for members living more than 50km away from Kampala. Grants the same benefits as ordinary membership.

INTERNATIONAL: available for those living outside of Uganda. Grants the same benefits as ordinary membership but does not allow for voting in the AGM.

NON-SAILING: available for domestic partners of Ordinary members and the parents/guardians of junior members under 16 years of age to visit the club and use social facilities while their partner or child is sailing. Does not include the right to sail at member rates or to vote in the AGM.

TEMPORARY: available for a period of no more than 3 months per sailing year (July - June). Grants access to the club and member rates but does not allow voting in the AGM.

Membership Pricing

Membership fees are inclusive of ILCA fees, land fund contributions. VAT is not applicable.

New members pay a joining fee and are entitled to pro-rated amounts if they join within the sailing year (July - June). For example, a new member joining on April 1 would pay the “Ordinary Member: Pro-rated 3 months” fee of 764,250 UGX. When renewing in July, they would pay the Ordinary Member - Returning rate of 1,457,000 UGX.

Pro-rated membership fees are not available for returning members, who may apply for a refund if they are leaving Kampala.

Early-bird discounts are available for members who pay before July 31 each year.
